6th Annual Marché français/French Marketplace 2011

Mark your calendar for April 14, 2011.

Canadian Parents for French - New Westminster Chapter is preparing for the 6th Annual Marché français/French Marketplace. This year the marché takes place during BC Arts and Culture Week so why not come and experience a bit of French art and culture!  Meet vendors of hard-to-find French resources and interesting French-themed items. Early French Immersion students will be displaying some of their art as well.

With the recent closings of Vancouver’s long standing multi-language book store, Sophia’s Books, and the largest source of music, games, CDs and DVDs, French Best-sellers, it is even harder to find local French resources. But we have sourced out several amazing businesses such as Kidsbooks, French Usborne Books, Savoir Books, Word Nerd Language and Education Ltd. and  L’École des Loisirs (offering quality book subscriptions from France) who are bringing tons of French books and other various stock for all ages.

This year we have some exciting new artists coming with photography from France, garden jewels and locally made French greeting cards. Van Dop Art Gallery is also coming and showcasing some French-Canadian artists. We have a few surprises too.

Listen to accordion folk dance music from France and Quebec performed by Marian Rose while enjoying delicious crêpes and maple treats. The Francophone Scouts will be hosting a children’s activity and craft area. French Immersion students will be conducting story time for the younger children.

We have a huge cross section of people attending -  French students, French Immersion classes, parents, teachers, librarians and the general public at large. We also have visitors attending from surrounding districts and last year, people from as far away as Abbotsford and Washington came.

Admission is free. Everyone is welcome!

À bientôt!

Special thanks go out to École Herbert Spencer School and SD40 for supporting this annual event.
